چکیده
I Cross sections, correct to second order, are derived for the photoproduction of wide angle electron pairs in a spherical, static, nuclear charge distribution. For typical double coincidence experiments it is found to be sufficient to treat only the convection current of the electron. The results obtained are essential to the interpretation of asymmetric electron pair production and may also be applied to wide angle electron bremsstrahlung. For non-coincidence experiments in which one lepton is detected with most of the available energy, the higher Born corrections are shown to be identical with those of electron scattering. Numerical results are presented. The large asymmetries which have been reported for coincident pairs produced on a lead target are satisfactorily explained by the second Born contribution. The predicted asymmetry for pairs produced in carbon with invariant pair mass near the p" mass is small compared to the Compton contribution.

Measurement of the Left-Right Cross Section Asymmetry in Z Boson Production in ee Collisions
A precise measurement of the left-right cross section asymmetry (ALR) for Z boson production by ee collisions has been performed at the SLAC Linear Collider with the SLD detector. Data for the 1993 run, with its signi cant improvements in luminosity and electron beam polarization, are presented. When combined with the (less precise) 1992 result, the preliminary result for the e ective weak mixi...

The real part of the virtual Compton amplitude can be directly determined from measurements of electron (or muon) bremsstrahlung or pair photoproduction. In general, the interference of the Compton amplitude with the Bethe-Heitler amplitude for pair production or bremsstrahlung yields a contribution to the cross section which is antisymmetric when the leptons are interchanged. This interference...

I briefly review three topics of recent interest concerning power corrections, renor-malons and Sudakov resummation: (a) 1/Q corrections to event shape observables in e + e − annihilation, (b) power corrections in Drell-Yan production and (c) facto-rial divergences that arise in resummation of large infrared (Sudakov) logarithms in moment or 'real' space.

In photon-atom scattering the customary partitioning of the elastic scattering amplitude into Rayleigh and Delbr uck amplitudes (as well as nuclear amplitudes) in the single-electron formalism involves summations over complete sets of intermediate electron states in the atomic potential. This leads to the Rayleigh amplitude which is usually compared with experiment. However another consequence ...
